No root required, but users might need to edit the build.prop to install it

Last week, Google announced a nice range of enhancements set to arrive on Android devices along with the new 4.1 Jelly Bean platform release, and some of these already got ported to older platform versions.

Among them, we can count Google Now, the app and service that are meant to keep users productive at all times, through delivering info on traffic, weather, and more.

Some enthusiasts managed to extract the app from Android 4.1 Jelly Bean and ported it to Ice Cream Sandwich, though with some caveats, it seems.

Some users might need to modify the build.prop to have the app install, though no root or other actions are required for this. However, some users say that OEM-skinned ROMs are incompatible with it.

A modified flavor of the app is said to be available for download as well, removing the need to edit the build.prop. More on the matter can be found on XDA-Developers.
