The long array of applications that were available for Google Mobile has just welcomed today its long awaited little brother, the Notebook.
It can be found
here and it offers access to your Google Notebook with a new "Mobile Notes" section. It is a long awaited addition and perhaps that might appease its fans that will most definitely not like the limitations within the mobile version. And speaking of limitations, they are quite annoying little beasts that roam around in the back of your
head when you first acknowledge them.
There is no search, (what? Google with no search? C'est ne pas possible! Mon Dieu! What has the world come to?) the notes, once created cannot be edited or deleted, ( starting to sound like a bad recurring dream about notes written with spelling errors?) labels cannot be added and settings cannot be changed. Oh, happy day Nevertheless, it is a nice thing to have easy access to a "notebook" for those quick reminders to yourself.
There are also some good parts, like the possibility to send a mobile note directly to one of the other notebooks/folders but it too comes with its downside, the "add a note" window is right at the bottom of the list.
Some have asked if this release is a hack to compensate for Google Docs mobile being read-only and if so, should we expect that Google at some point will merge Google Docs and Google Notebook? Anyway, by all the signs they will Of course nothing is yet certain but things are never confirmed beforehand, it must be something like a policy or something of the sort.
The original Google Notebook is an interactive scratch pad for any visited web pages, offering to collect web findings within the browser window, a free service offered by Google that provides a simple way to save and organize clips of information when conducting research online. This personal browser tool permits a user to write notes, and to clip text, images, and links from pages during browsing.
