The Google phone was confirmed and most people were excited to hear that such a device is being planned, regardless of it being just a low-end device that will be offered on emerging markets.

Even so, the Google South-East Asia managing director of sales and operations, Richard Kimber said that 'At this point in time, we are very focused on the software, not the phone.' This follows a similar statement coming from Vint Cerf earlier this month, who said that 'becoming an equipment manufacturer is pretty far from our business model.'

The search giant seems to believe that it's more logical to form partnerships and offer their services pre-loaded on devices manufactured by other companies.

While Google is trying to underline that its main focus right now is mobile software, services and ads, no one from the company has so far contradicted Isabel Aguilera's previous statement that a low-end Google phone is in fact in the works.

Also, according to the Guardian, Google has been in talks with several companies including Telef?nica, the owner of O2, on the Google phone, which is said to be dubbed the 'GPhone' The report also mentions that Google has hired the team who created the Sidekick for mobile operator T-Mobile.

Moreover, all of the recent rumors regarding such a phone must have some truth in them. Google has never kept its interest in the mobile phone industry secret or the potential it sees in providing a more convenient way for people to access the Internet while on the move. This however, might just mean that they are working on the services they will be offering for mobile phones and not that they aim to release a handset of their own. More information on this should be out soon.
