Although Google’s first device to be shipped with Android 4.1 Jelly Bean out of the box, the Nexus 7 has been available in limited quantities in the UK since July 13, Carphone Warehouse will be one of the first retailers to officially offer the slate.

We reported two weeks ago that customers who pre-ordered the Nexus 7 via Ebuyer already received their tablets. However, the slate was only available in limited quantities and the UK-based retailer is only accepting pre-orders now.

Anyway, Carphone Warehouse announced today that the hotly anticipated Nexus 7 tablet will be available for purchase beginning July 27.

Customers will be able to grab it for free on a tethered contract from 20.50 GBP (32 USD or 26 EUR) per month, or for 199 GBP (310 USD or 255 EUR) outright.

Manufactured by Asus, the Nexus 7 boasts a 7-inch HD (800 x 1280 pixels) display and packs an Nvidia Tegra 3 chipset that features a quad-core processor clocked at 1.3 GHz, which is complemented by an ULP GeForce graphics processing unit.

The Nexus 7 provides access to more than 600,000 apps and games via Google Play store. The slate also sports a 1.2-megapixel main camera with video recording and video calling capabilities. There’s also a 4325 mAh Li-Ion battery inside, which has yet to be rated by the manufacturer.

It’s interesting to see that despite larger 10 inch tablets dominating the market, Google is forging ahead with its own 7 inch model. A smaller tablet has yet to prove itself in a category dominated by bigger screens, but if anyone can make it happen, Google can. I’m sure the other leading tablet manufacturers will be watching closely and be ready to follow suit in the coming months,” said Graham Stapleton, chief commercial officer at Carphone Warehouse.
