Google News, the news solution owned by the search giant, gets a fresh update that helps the users sort the headlines easier. The new function, codenamed "Sort by date with
duplicates included", is especially meant to enable readers to find a certain category of headlines and view them without duplicates or similar subjects. It seems that the feature is available to all regional versions of Google News and is displayed right under the search box near the "Sort by date" function.
Last week, I wrote an article concerning Google News to express my opinion about the duplicate stories appearing on the news index. At that time, the product displayed no more than 3 similar headlines, from the same website but with different links and subjects. Although there was no official statement concerning the problem, I believe it was somehow a spam method as the link to the original author of the title redirected the user to a different subject than the one posted on Google News.
However, the Mountain View company wants to make Google News more powerful and this was proved by the deal signed with the Belgian newspapers that sued the company in the past. As you might know, the publication filed a complaint against Google, accusing the search giant for copyright infringement. At that time, a Belgian court ordered the company to remove all the headlines provided by the newspapers and to avoid publishing additional titles. Recently, Google managed to sign a deal with the Belgian companies so it seems that the information will be included soon with a single difference: the search giant will index only the current news, disabling the cache function as the publications want to archive the older subjects and sell them.
