Google is continuing to shut down side projects and experimental products. This time around, the news isn't all bad, while Google is closing down Boutiques.com, it's incorporating all of the best feature right inside Google Product Search.

The product search tool is also getting a revamp, inspired by Google's new design ethos, but with some unique elements of its own.

"We’re taking the features that shoppers absolutely love from Boutiques and incorporating them into Google Product Search -- so millions of people can use them every day," Burak Gokturk, Like.com co-founder and member of the Google Commerce team, wrote.

"This is the first in a series of improvements we’re making to Google Product Search leveraging the computer vision and machine learning technology developed by the team we affectionately call our fashion and computer nerds," he explained.

The first thing you'll notice about the new Product Search is the redesigned homepage. It's using some of elements common to all new redesigned Google products and the red with gray color scheme.

But it puts a huge emphasis on images, much more so than any other Google product and more so than the previous page.

Apart from the focus on the product images, Product Search also incorporates some of the features of Boutiques, only for dresses for now. You can search for dresses based on colors, silhouette and genre.

You can also search for dresses similar to the one you like, also a feature from Boutiques based on image recognition and visual search technologies.

Google has started notifying existing Boutiques.com and Like.com users that the sites are shutting down and merging with Google's existing products. Visitors to those sites will be redirected to Google Product Search starting October 14.

Google has been closing down or merging many of its adjacent products. All of Slide's apps and products have been shut down recently with one exception.
