The new version may be officially introduced at Google I/O on June 25

With just a few days left until Google I/O conference is set to kick off, some screenshots taken from a rather unusual version of Android have leaked online.

In fact, the screenshots have been posted on Chromium issue tracker, probably by mistake, which is one of the reasons that the page has been taken down quickly after they spread over the Internet.

Fortunately, reddit user Doopl has been able to capture a few and has published them online, so we can have a glimpse of what’s to come from Google.

Unfortunately, aside from the screenshots leaked, no other related information is available for the moment, so we can only speculate on what we are seeing in these pictures.

Well, first of all, there’s the upper-case L on the left upper corner of the home screen, which is why this version of Android has been nickname “L,” though we’re certain that Google will launch it under a different name.

The Chrome window looks very much like the project Hera that we talked about a few months ago. It’s floating in an unusual position, not necessarily in a bad way.

The gradient in the status and navigation bars seems to have been removed and the Chrome UI got updated with a few tweaks here and there. What do you think about these screenshots?
