Google Maps is one of the most popular services provided by the search giant because it allows you to view satellite maps and other images from all around the world. The company also owns a downloadable tool that provides similar functions, Google Earth being the most powerful rival for Microsoft's Virtual Earth. The two services provided by Google are so popular that even terrorists are using them to organize their attacks against the UK troops located in Basra. I guess the company never expected that so their employees decided to replace certain images with older ones that can't reproduce security related locations.

Nowadays, Google tries to release more and more services designed especially for mobile and handheld devices because the company wants to be accessible from every location. Until now, you can use your mobile device to connect to multiple Google products: Gmail, orkut and Google Maps. That's why the company decided to release a Windows Mobile version for the Google Maps service to make it available for several handheld devices owner. The application provides same functions as the previous version of the service but it now features a GPS tool and better navigation on the maps using drag-and-drop support.

"Like other versions of Google Maps for mobile, with this Windows Mobile version you can find businesses and see real-time traffic updates, along with unique features like contacts integration, GPS support, draggable maps, and tap and hold menus. The business search function proved particularly useful to find delicious Italian food in Half Moon Bay to sate our jet-lagged stomachs," Marcus Bulach, Software Engineer, sustained on the official blog.

I also tested this interesting application provided by Google and I must mention that I find it really amazing because it allows you to navigate with ease on the maps from the entire world, offering high detailed imagery captured from the satellites. Google Maps for Windows Mobile also provides directions to find the best way to a specific location as well as GPS support to use the shortest way to your desired destination.

Google Maps for Windows Mobile was also tested by Softpedia and it is available as free download on this link.
