Google Maps for mobile is not a new service, but it proves to be one of the most popular among handset owners around the world. According to Google, over 100 million people are3 using the service on their mobile phones each month, benefiting from the wide range of features Google Maps comes with.

Ever since its initial release, Google Maps has seen various enhancements, expanding the functionality users can benefit from when accessing the service.

“With My Location, you can quickly find where you are on the map with or without GPS. You can put your friends on the map with Latitude. Navigation even turns your phone into a free internet-connected navigation system with voice guidance and Street View imagery,” the company notes.

According to a recent post on the Google Mobile Blog, the development team behind Google Maps has been focused on helping users find the right place at the right time.

One of the latest features included into the mix is Place Pages, enabling people pick a nearby places through browsing info like opening hours, reviews and more.

“It’s easier than ever to find those places with Search by voice or the new Places icon on Android. With this latest Android version, we’re happy to see that you’re now searching for places almost three times as often, doubling how many Place Pages are seen a day,” the blog post notes.

Unfortunately, it seems that not all mobile phone users out there are able to benefit from all of these features on their devices.

Google has been mainly focused on improving the service for users of its Android operating system, while leaving other mobile platforms aside. Few Android users outside the US can enjoy them.

However, chances are that the Internet giant would consider making some steps in this direction too, something that would help it gain even more monthly users for Google Maps, that's for sure.
