Mountain View-based giant Google appears set to prove to the world that its Google Maps for Android service is better than what competition has to offer, and has announced a new enhancement to it.

Android users relying on Google Maps to find their way around can now benefit from expanded indoor coverage in France, making navigation in the country a bit more comprehensive.

“Today, we’re expanding the coverage of this indoor maps feature to include popular French venues, making the maps of France more comprehensive, accurate and usable for both locals and travelers alike,” Cedric Dupont, Product Manager, Google Maps, notes in a blog post.

“Now, even if you’re visiting one of these large, well-trafficked places for the first time, you can navigate your way around like a pro.”

Google Maps for Android also sports a My Location feature that can be used indoors, and which provides users with the possibility to easily find shops, ATMs and more.

To enable the new feature, Google has worked closely with over 50 French venues, including shopping malls, retailers, airports and museums, so that users could access their indoor floor plans via the Google Maps application.

“We even partnered with super markets such as Carrefour so that you can look for items like the ‘dairy’ aisle and figure out the fastest way to the milk products to save time when shopping,” Cedric Dupont continues.

“Whether you use indoor maps to view the different departments of iconic French retailers like Galeries Lafayette Montparnasse, or simply to find your way to a fresh loaf of bread at the local Carrefour supermarket, Google Maps for Android can help you explore the great indoors.”

Android users in France can learn more on the indoor maps that are available in the application through this Help Center article on Google’s website. More info on the feature can be found on Google’s Maps website.
