Using the My Maps feature

Google recently introduced My Maps, a new function for Google Maps that allows users to design their own versions of certain locations and save them in their Google account. Since the debut of the function, My Maps was often brought in the spotlights because the users managed to design high-quality maps. However, Google Maps is a powerful service that is meant to be the leader in its category and this is proved by the numerous updates made by the parent company Google. Today, the Mountain View based firm included a new function for the service that allows visitors to search the user-generated content. According to Google Blogoscoped, the Maps service shows user-created maps that will increase the details provided by the product using the clients' solutions.

"Google has started to integrate user-generated content on Google Maps. A search for restaurant stuttgart, for instance, first shows Google's normally aggregated results (which Google says include "information from our web search results, data submitted directly by local business owners, and sources such as publicly available Yellow Pages directories"). Below these links you'll see the link "See user-created content," and clicking on it switches the red placemarks to blue placemarks," the same publication sustained in a blog post.

At the moment of the My Maps feature, the search giant's representatives announced only one goal: it will allow users to create their own maps and save them in the account. It seems like the function is also useful for the Mountain View-based company because it will bring more user-generated content that seems to be the key to success. Take the example of YouTube, the online video sharing service that attracts a huge number of visitors using the homemade clips uploaded by its users.
