Google's Maps service is one of the most popular navigation solutions available for users of mobile phones, and the company has just announced enhancements brought to it for users of handsets running under Android 1.6 or higher. To be more precise, these users can now enjoy Google Maps Navigation 4.2 in more countries around Europe, including Austria, Belgium, Denmark, France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Portugal, Spain, and Switzerland, as well as in Canada.

“Today we’re launching Google Maps Navigation version 4.2 in Austria, Belgium, Canada, Denmark, France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Portugal, Spain, and Switzerland for Android devices 1.6 and higher. Google Maps Navigation is an Internet-connected GPS navigation or ‘satnav’ system that provides turn-by-turn voice guidance as a free feature of Google Maps,” a recent post on Google Mobile Blog reads.

Those who will try out the solution in one of the aforementioned countries will also benefit from search by voice features (in French, German, Italian, and Spanish for Android 2.0 and higher), already available for Android users in the US and the UK. At the same time, users will enjoy turn-by-turn voice guidance, as well as the possibility to view on map gas stations, or to take a look at the road via Street View. Other features are also available for Android users, though only those living in the US or the UK were able to enjoy them until now.

With the new features added to the Google Maps Navigation solution, people will certainly find it much easy to drive around Europe, especially if they are not familiar with the landscape and they need to find a certain location. Those users interested in Google Maps Navigation (still in beta flavor) with Search by voice should have Google Maps 4.2 installed on their handsets for that. Available for Android devices 1.6 and higher, the solution can be downloaded from the Android Market straight to the mobile phone.
