During its first keynote at I/O conference, Google announced it would add support for offline search and turn-by-turn navigation to Google Maps.

Until the new features are implemented and made available to general public, Google announced another update for its Maps application, which brings even more useful features to users.

Thanks to the update that will roll out gradually in select countries, Google Maps users will receive real-time transit information, so they will be able to track their transportation faster and easier.

Google also announced that it would make it easier to get real-time transit info in two new countries and four new metro areas.

According to Google, the company is already collaborating with more than 100 partners to offer Maps users real-time transit info, but today they are adding at least 25 new partners in six locations: UK, Netherlands, Budapest, Chicago, San Francisco and Seattle.

Get estimated time of arrival in real time

Now Google Maps users won't just be able to see bus or sub's schedule, but also get the estimated time of arrival in real time for buses, metros and subway systems.

With the new update, the application will even be able to alert users of canceled routes, so they can better navigate through these towns that have real-time transit information feature enabled.

“Google Maps has provided public transit information since 2007, and today it’s helping you get around easier in 18,000+ cities and towns in 64 countries, across six continents.

“With the help of 6,000+ transit authorities, Google Maps gets you where you need to go with schedules for more than 2.5 million train stations, bus stops, and ferry terminals around the world,” says Google in a blog post.

Keep in mind that this feature might be rolled out as a silent update by Google, so you might notice when you get it. However, if it shows on Google Play Store, then you know what you need to do.
