Google Maps Gets New Update. What About Google Earth?

Google Maps, the online service that allows users to view satellite maps straight from a web-based interface, received a new update to improve the quality of the information concerning certain locations. As you know, every time you clicked on a Google Maps marker, the service opened a balloon notification message that offered information about a certain location and provided quick access to pictures, reviews and users' comments. This feature was now improved, Google Maps offering a separate text view that brings even more details about a marker.

Blogger Ionut Alex discovered this new function and, as you can see in the picture attached to the article, it minimizes the map and opens a new screen displaying the information. Among numerous links for reviews and users' opinions, the "Text View" feature also publishes directions to reach the location on Google Maps and obviously in reality, too.

These days, the two products, Google Maps and Google Earth, were surely the most promoted services owned by the company. Google Earth was recently updated and quietly released on the market, the 4.1 beta version bringing an impressive interoperability with Google Maps. The users are now able to view a certain location from the downloadable application straight on the web-browser by pressing a single button able to redirect the user. Google Maps was also improved with detailed street imagery for nine countries from the entire world.

However, the Sunnyvale company Yahoo decided that it's time to become a more important rival for Google and updated its online service Yahoo Maps. Yesterday, the product received an impressive set of improvements with high-resolution pictures showing no more than 34 major European countries. Under these circumstances, the search giant Google should struggle to update their products and make them more competitive for the rival companies.
