Whether you're an accident fanatic that wants to know each and every morbid detail, or you're just concerned about the road you'll be taking your kids to school on, it doesn't matter. This map tells you about the most dangerous roads on the planet and gives additional information about them to those curious.
The mashup is based on data collected from
Mapbuilder, Wikipedia and Assn. of Safe International Road Travel and is arranged alphabetically. That's a good thing, too, were it to be arranged by the number of casualties or any other aspect, it would have been plain weird. The 31 roads are pinned on the map with a black pointer, clickable for the additional information that I mentioned, where available.
There's also a link on some of the bubbles that are shown containing the info, redirecting users to sites that have covered the accidents on that road in the past, such as BBC, in the example on the left. It's a bleak perspective, but you've got to know whether the route you're commuting on has a 25 percent of crashes being head-on due to several blind corners, I think.
The news from BBC is complemented, on other pages, by Wikipedia articles that also put a history behind the hazardous route, making it a very interesting read more often than not.
Finding out about the crashes is one thing, but letting drivers know about the dangers they exhibit themselves to every day, in particular, and trying to raise their awareness level is a totally different story, as many hotheaded individuals will just try to speed through those roads, in a foolish attempt to defy fate. The release of this map is bound to have both a positive and a negative impact, as I've just showed above. I only hope that you'll be one of those driving safe.
