The Nexus 9 tablet will be released as well

Google is expected to launch its new mobile operating system, the Android L, sometime this month, numerous reports claim. Along with it, the search giant is going to announce several smartphones and at least one tablet that will be powered by the new mobile platform.

Unfortunately, the situation is a bit confusing given the fact that Google has scheduled just one event for this month so far and we know for sure that the company will unveil the Nexus 9, a tablet manufactured by HTC.

However, according to the latest hearsay, Google may also announce the Nexus 6 and the Android L during the same event. This hasn’t happened before, as the company has had separate events for its tablets and smartphones each year.

Well, it looks like things are about to change a little bit, as a new report from Forbes claims that the search giant is ready to unveil a new Motorola handset later today, along with the Nexus 9 tablet and the new version of Android L.

In fact, the report says that Google is still fine tuning Android L, which is why the company has opted for a quiet launch instead a full-blown event as we’re used to.

This means that the company is likely to introduce the Nexus 6 and the Android L operating system later this month, as we originally assumed.

The new smartphone might be exclusive to AT&T in the US

It’s still unclear what the new Motorola smartphone will look like design- and hardware-wise, but there’s a high chance that this will be a US exclusive device.

Verizon Wireless has already hinted at a new launch in the DROID family for October 28, and we expect the carrier to unveil the so-called DROID Turbo, which is a smaller version of Google’s Nexus 6.

On the other hand, a similar handset has been tipped for AT&T as well under the Motorola Nexus 6 name. This could be the device that Google will launch along with the Nexus 9 tablet later today, but take it as pure speculation for the moment, as we don’t have any confirmations from sources close to the matter.

We also know that the Nexus 9 should be put on pre-order on October 17 and on sale from November 3, but there are no details on Motorola’s smartphone’s availability and price.

There isn’t any info on when Android L will make it to other smartphones and tablets either, so we might as well wait for Google’s announcement later today. Stay tuned for more details on the matter.
