Google has created a page showcasing why it's a good idea to have a Google account. That may seem odd to quite a lot of tech savvy folks who have created one years ago.

It's hard to imagine that someone doesn't have a Google account at this stage, but there are plenty of new people coming online and plenty still using only the same couple of sites and services they've used for years.

And there are quite a lot of them, in the quest to add as many users as possible, companies such as Google, which don't benefit from the viral effect Facebook accounts have, resort to this type of strategies.

Google Operating System, the unofficial blog, spotted the new page which gives a short run down of some of the services you'd be able to access with a Google account.

Creating a Google account is easy, all you need is a working email address, it doesn't have to be a Gmail address, and a few minutes to set it up. After that you get to access things like YouTube, Google Docs, Google Calendar and so on.

But having a Google account is a good idea not only for Google services, it can be used to log into a myriad of other sites and services. It's also one of the most secure, especially with things like 2-step authentication enabled.

It's interesting to think, as Google Operating System noticed, that only a few years ago most Google services didn't require an account. Granted, most of the products we now take for granted weren't available yet and Google hadn't even acquired YouTube yet.

Now though, a Google account is more than a way of accessing Google products or third-party websites, it's also the way you sync your Android device to the cloud or you log into your Chromebook.
