The new app makes a good party trick and can help others on Google Maps

There are plenty of apps in the App Store that will make a panorama or a 3D picture of your surroundings.

Therefore, one could say Google is pretty late at this game with their app. Photo Sphere has been on Android for a while now, and it is making its way onto iPhone right now. There is no iPad version available, but it's not like there are too many people taking panorama photos with their tablet, anyway.

Google is describing their new toy as an app that takes beautiful 360 degrees images and publishes them to Google Maps. First word of advice: as tempting as this may sound, make sure you do not post to Google Maps pictures taken inside your house. Best photos are the outdoors ones and Google is smart about that. Taking photos in different locations and posting them to Google Maps will get you credit for them and that is about it. Google Maps will use them as part of Google Street View.

Hence the app description welcomes users to take photos from mountain tops, skyscrapers, historic landmarks and city streets.

Once you open the app, you are asked if you want to share your location. After that, all you need to do is follow the orange dots, and when they turn white, it means you have taken a picture. That process will repeat as long as you need to take a complete picture of your location. Check out the following video for details.
