Google Docs and Sheets have been part of the Drive application for a long time, but Google thought that it would be wise to make them available as separate downloads via Play Store.

Android enthusiasts who need to edit or create documents while on the go will now be able to do so by downloading these applications and get to work right away.

Aside from its usual features, both Docs and Sheets applications now come with built-in offline support, so users will not need an Internet connection while editing or creating new files.

While these apps are still integrated within Drive app, in the coming weeks, all users who want to create a new document or edit anything in Drive will be prompted to download Docs and Sheets apps on their Android devices to continue to take advantage of what they have to offer.

Keep in mind that Google has confirmed that you will still be able to use the Drive app for organizing spreadsheets, presentations, documents, photos and anything else that you have stored there.

For those unfamiliar with Docs and Sheets apps for Android devices that were part of the Drive application, here is a quick recap.

Docs for Android is offered for free and can be used to create new documents or edit old ones. Users can also share documents with others and even work on them at the same time. However, this will require an Internet connection.

The application also allows users to add and respond to comments, but the most precious advantage is the fact that it can now work offline without having to open an Internet connection.

With Sheets for Android, users can create new spreadsheets or open and edit others previously created on the device or on the web. Just like Docs, any document created in Sheets can be shared and users can work together with their friends in the same spreadsheet at the same time.

You will be able to make use of various features like format cells, enter and sort data, and more. As mentioned earlier, working in Sheets does not require an Internet connection, unless you want to share a document with someone.

You can now download Docs for Android for free via Google Play Store. The application is fully compatible with all devices powered by Android 4.0 and up. Sheets for Android is available for free as well and has the same requirements.

Google has also announced that a third application for Android devices, Slides, will be available for download via Play store very soon, so stay tuned for more on that.
