Mountain View-based Internet giant Google is keen on ensuring that new, more appealing applications are being built for its Android mobile operating system.

The launch of a new version of the OS - none other than Ice Cream Sandwich (Android 4.0) – marked a change in design, the biggest the platform has seen to date.

“We’ve enhanced the UI framework with new interactions and styles that will let you create Android apps that are simpler and more beautiful than ever before,” Christian Robertson, head of the Android visual design group, explains in a blog post.

To ensure that developers indeed benefit from access to these resources, Google launched the Android Design website.

There, developers will find info on principles, and building blocks, as well as patterns for coming up with world-class Android user interfaces.

The website should prove of great help for all developers out there, regardless of whether they are UI professionals or not. The documents available on that page are meant to enable them to make good design decisions, big and small.

“The Android User Experience Team is committed to helping you design amazing apps that people love, and this is just the beginning,” Christian Robertson explains.

“In the coming months, we’ll expand Android Design with more in-depth content. And watch this blog for a series of posts about design, and invitations to Google+ hangouts on the topics you care about most.”

Recently, Google has announced that all devices that come with Android 4.0 on board will have to have its Holo Theme on them as default. With the launch of this website, the company shows that it is interested in the appearance of applications that run on Android, and that it is determined to ensure that users have a great experience with their devices.
