For the Patents Search technology

Google is the best search engine on the Internet and you know it. But what if you can be alerted every time some new content is published on Google? That would be interesting at least for some services that can be monitored to find out latest information in a certain domain. Jodi Healy, Library Partnerships Manager, had a speech for a talk entitled "Google Presents: New Developments" speaking about the upcoming solutions prepared by the search giant. Being asked about a potential notification for the latest patents added to Patent Search, the Google employee said that it would be a great addition for the technology.

"Currently, you can only set up Google Alerts for new information from our Web, Google Groups, Blog Search or News indexes (or you can set up a comprehensive alert that includes all four). Adding Patents to this selection would be a great idea. Thanks for the suggestion -- we'll pass it on to the team at Google," the Google employee said.

As he said, there are a lot of Google services that offer notifications but some of them are quite useless. Some time ago, I discovered some weird alerts sent by Google News that redirected me to inexistent links, although they were published on the official page of the service.

The Google Patent Search is not as popular as it should be because the parent company prefers to promote it rarely. However, the service is more than useful because it bundles the power of the Google Search with the patents provided by the United States Patent and Trademark Office.

"Google Patent Search covers the entire collection of patents made available by the USPTO-from patents issued in the 1790s through those issued in the middle of 2006. We don't currently include patent applications, international patents, or U.S. patents issued over the last few months, but we look forward to expanding our coverage in the future," Google describes the Patent Search.
