Google is running one of its regular doodles on its homepage. This time around, it's celebrating the late clay animator Art Clokey who died last year.

Google is using his best known character Gumby and some of his friends in the animated doodle which follows the style of the artist.

Keeping true to the author perhaps, the doodle animations aren't anything fancy like HTML5 or CSS3, rather, Google is using a JavaScript hack to cut up a large image into pieces which become the frames of the animation.

It may not be particularly impressive, but it ensures that the animation works on all browsers. Considering the number of people that visit the Google homepage, keeping it simple works best.

That said, Google hasn't been afraid of experimenting with newer technologies for other doodles, sometimes causing problems for some users.

I think you are wrong. It is using the CSS3 scroll and JavaScript--no?
