Google, in search, has been, for the most part invincible. It has taken over virtually any market it debuted in and is the undisputed king. Except for very few markets in which local players have been able to stave off Google and even dominate.Yandex is one example of that, Russian internet, like the Chinese one, tends to favor local players. Neither Facebook nor Google are top dogs in Russia, for example.
But it seems that things may be changing, ever so slightly, as Google has started gaining up on Yandex in the past few months in Russia,

Yandex's market share is still more than two times larger than Google, but it's the first time Google has seen any big growth in the past three years or so.
