Android applications developers can now provide their users with a high-quality video experience in their software, courtesy of new YouTube Android Player API coming from Google.

The API was pre-announced at Google I/O 2012 and comes with features such as high-quality video playback supported on Android 2.2 (Froyo) or newer, as well as with easy integration with your Android application (no WebView required).

Furthermore, Google announced that it brings support for full-screen and orientation change, as well as for YouTube ads and closed captions display.

Moreover, the YouTube Android Player API sports programmatic access, similar to existing Player APIs, to most aspects of the YouTube video playback experience, as well as integration with the Android YouTube app using a standard set of YouTube Intents.
