Google Blog Search

Not long ago, a study made by Technorati revealed that every 24 hours, 80,000 blogs are born.

With such an information density, a dedicated search engine is more than welcome and who better to launch it than Google? Once Pyra Labs' Blogger.com was acquired, Google has become one of the most important players on the market.

Now, Google has launched a new service, which is currently in beta stage; its only purpose being to search through the blogs. Google Blog Search will scan all the blogs in real time, and although currently, the oldest articles are from June 2005, Jason Goldman, Google product manager for blog search, said that the company is also looking to solutions able to introduce older ones.

Google has defined the blogs as sites that use RSS and whose content is regularly updated. The results of a search will be sorted by date and it's worth mentioning that the indexing algorithms are different from those used by Google for Web searching. Google Blog Search already has a page for advanced searching, with features such as filtering by author, title and data range.

The results of a search can also be saved and the users will be noticed when there's something new.

Google Blog Search doesn't include news sites, so Google News will remain a separate project. This feature is currently available in English, Brazilian, Dutch, Italian, German, Russian, Korean, French and Spanish; the other languages will be introduced shortly.
