Users can find results faster

Browsing the Internet via your mobile phone is definitely less effective than browsing from your desktop PC, regardless of your handset's display size. Google knows that (it would be funny not to), and it continuously tries to improve its mobile homepage as well as its search engine for mobiles.

The latest major upgrade for Google's mobile search engine dates from Spring 2007. The main improvement that came back then was the fact that mobile search featured result filtering, allowing users to find exactly what they wanted without needing to browse through irrelevant content.

Now, the Mountain View company has improved its mobile search engine again and created a faster and cleaner interface. Also, the search results are specially adjusted for mobiles in order to help users reach data, news or maps faster than before. So we have another improvement related to result filtering.

The new search engine for mobiles is available in the US and will also be accessible from Canada, UK, Germany and France, starting tomorrow. Most probably, mobile users from other countries will also benefit from Google's new search engine, but there are no details about when this might happen.

Aside from the enhanced search engine for mobiles, Google also introduces new search view modes for those who browse from desktop PCs or laptops, enabling users to view search results in different modes: Map View, Timeline View and Info View. Available at this address, the new search view modes are currently in an experimental stage and I doubt they could be implemented in Google's page for mobiles, considering the fact that this one has to compress everything in a much smaller screen. However, mobile browsing is clearly becoming more and more popular and it's a good thing that Google wants to make the best possible experience out of it.
