The name of the OS will be changed for the market release

With less than a week left until Google I/O, the first details on the next version of Android that's supposed to go official at the conference continue to leak online.

We have already reported on some of the new features that Google plans to launch in the upcoming version of the mobile operating system, but, obviously, we can't confirm much of it because the search giant is still mum on the matter.

News about Google's Android M dropped in early May for the first time. However, unlike some of the information that we got about its features, which we can't confirm, the name Android M appeared in a session description that Google accidentally posted in Google I/O keynotes scheduler.

The description was quickly pulled after reports of Android M started to make headlines, but not before we could take a screenshot of it.

So, Google's next version of Android will be something sweet, perhaps starting with the letter “M.” Unfortunately, for the time being it's unclear how Google will name Lollipop's successor.

Sweets for my sweet ...

The good news is the folks over at AndroidPolice have learned that Google is testing internally Android M under Macadamia Nut Cookie (MNC) name.

This isn't just a rumor obtained from sources close to the matter, since Macadamia Nut Cookie is often mentioned in AOSP. Some comments from developers and Googlers have also mentioned this particular name quite a few times.

Keep in mind though that the Macadamia Nut Cookie is just meant for internal testing and will most likely be changed. The same happened with the references to LMP (Lemon Meringue Pie) and KLP (Key Lime Pie), which have been dropped by Google in favor of other market names.

It will be interesting to see whether Google will announce the new OS next week as Android M and decide its final name later on, or the company has already found the right market name for it.
