Mountain Veiw-based Internet giant Google has made a new feature available for mobile phone users, namely Google Instant. The solution was already available for desktop users, and can now be enjoyed on Android and iPhone devices too, making search a little faster through displaying search results as users type.

Back in September, the company announced the upcoming availability of Google Instant for mobile phones, and it has just released a beta version on most iPhone and Android devices in the U.S.

With the new features, users will save much more time when performing searches, since typing is much slower on the small screen, while pages need more time to load.

“Like the desktop version of Google Instant, when you type on your mobile device you’ll see predictions of what you might be searching for. If you type [anse], for example, you should see [ansel adams] along with other predictions,” the company notes in a recent blog post.

At the same time, the company notes that the results for the first prediction appear automatically, while tapping on the other predictions will show the results. As soon as one hits the enter key or the search button, the results for what was typed are displayed.

According to the Internet giant, the release of Google Instant on mobile phones should push mobile browsers and wireless networks to the limit.

“You will probably notice a big improvement in speed when you search thanks to a new AJAX and HTML5 implementation for mobile that dynamically updates the page with new results and eliminates the need to load a new page for each query,” the post continues

“To try it out, go to google.com in your phone’s browser and tap the Google Instant “Turn on” link beneath the search box (if you don’t see the “Turn on” link, try waiting a moment and then refresh the page),” the blog states.

When users on 3G and WiFi networks, Google Instant will deliver great performance levels. However, in case one would like to use search without the feature, one would just have to press on the Turn off” link. Tapping the “Turn on” link will re-enable it.

Google Instant can be used on Android 2.2 Froyo smartphones, as well as on iPhones and iPods running iOS 4. The solution is available only in the US and only in English.

More countries and more languages should taste the solution within a matter of months, the company also announced.
