14 DAY TRIAL // Google Instant is a great feature, but, unfortunately for many, it is not yet available on all, even most Google Search localized versions and not for all browsers. And it would be nice to see it in other Google products or even built into browsers. Well, all of these features are coming.
For now, Google Instant is available on Google.com and in France, Germany, Italy, Russia, Spain and the U.K.
But even those users have to be running on Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox or Internet Explorer 8. Everyone else is out of luck.
Fortunately, this is just the initial roll out. Google has big, big plans for the technology. While it hasn't laid out any clear plans, Google has said it will deploy the feature to all of its localized search engines and for all browsers.
There is no timeline for when international versions are coming, but Google has promised that all will be included.
The same is true for browsers. For now, Opera users can trick Google into delivering the Instant page by identifying itself as Firefox. The same trick should work for any other modern browsers capable of spoofing its identity.
There is one issue with the current implementation though. The fact is, most users don't visit Google.com anymore, everyone just uses the search boxes in browsers.
Google has this covered as well and says you can expect the feature to be built into browsers within months. There are no specifics on how this will be achieved.
But Google won't stop there. Once Google Instant is available in all languages and for all desktop browsers, the company plans to bring it to mobile search as well.
In fact, Google already demoed a mobile version of the feature, on an Android device. It's obvious that the feature will be right at home on mobile devices. Anything that requires less typing is welcomed and suggestions with auto-completion certainly fit the bill.
There are plans to bring instant search results to other Google products, Image and other search tools obviously, but also Google News, Google Maps and so on.
