14 DAY TRIAL // Google this week rolled out a major new update to Hangouts users with Apple devices, adding the ability to call people from your address book for free in the US and Canada.
According to Google, Hangouts version 1.3.0 lets you see which of your friends is using Hangouts and whether or not your can reach them.
You can call phone numbers from your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch completely free of charge in the US and Canada, and place and receive calls using your very own Google Voice number.
Additional features include the ability to send and receive animated GIFs that play inline, and other stuff.
Google asks users to note that Hangouts will temporarily turn down music when you receive an incoming message, but it will not stop it.
