Using Google Custom Search Engine

As you surely know, Google Custom Search Engine is an innovative technology designed by Google's engineers that allows you to bring the power of the well known search engine on your own site and help visitors find a certain amount of information. Because it enables owners to select the links that will be returned as search results, it is extremely configurable and can be used for all kinds of purposes. Google Custom Search Engine was released in October 2006 and now it is a product used by more than 100.000 customers, being available on numerous sites on the Internet.

Although the service was released a long time ago and is so popular, Google's employees posted a message on the official blog of the company that can be easily regarded as an advert or an attempt to promote the solution.

"Create a search engine for kids by limiting sites searched to kid-friendly websites; create a search for you and your colleagues that's limited to university sites or a select group of professionally-vetted resources; or even create your own personal search engine that combs through your favorite recipe websites. It's all free, and there's no limit to how many CSEs you can create. In the short time since launch, over 100,000 CSEs have been created by people with all kinds of interests and purposes. It's easy to create your own, and you'll have it up and running in a matter of minutes," Jennifer Hyman, Product Marketing Manager, sustained in a blog post published on Google's Librarian Central.

So, why would Google try to promote the service now, after such a long period since its release date? I have no idea but as far as I can see, Google Custom Search Engine is an easy to use solution that provides a simple configuration system based on a wizard with a few steps to setup the search technology.
