Google Glass is finally adding music to its repertoire

Google Glass was quite revolutionary when it was introduced, but it's still getting better. That's actually to be expected of a brand new device category. In fact, Google has recently presented a new Glass, a hardware revision with some modifications and improvements.

One of the big additions in the updated Glass was a headphone, a single one, to replace the bone vibration sound system that Glass used previously.

It looks like the device will be putting that single earbud to good use since Google is getting ready to roll out a Play Music app for Glass.

The app is already there in the latest XE11 update, but it's not enabled by default. Google has confirmed that it is launching music features for Glass later today. Users will be able to listen to any of the songs on their Play Music library or from the All Access streaming service, if they're subscribers.

Everything will be controlled by voice commands, as usual, including playback and searching for music. Glass already has a Sound Search feature that enables you to find out what song is playing in the background.

"With these new features, we're now building a great music experience on Glass, whether you're a classical music professor, an acclaimed sound engineer and hip-hop producer, or someone who wants to listen to their favorite tunes anytime, anywhere," Ed Sanders, director of marketing for Google Glass, said in a statement.

"When the iPhone launched in 2007, it had a dozen apps on it and that was it. The whole app ecosystem didn't exist until people could invent for the iPhone," he added. "That's kind of where we are with Glass. Music is a big part of that."

To prepare for the new music features, Google put out a video showcasing hip hop producer Young Guru walking around Los Angeles wearing Glass and soaking up the sounds.
