Google Glass' Explorer Program has proved successful, apparently, at least in the sense that the company is figuring out what works and what doesn't with the current design. Google has announced that it's got a revamped version of Glass coming (some have labeled it Glass 2), which implements a few changes compared to the current device.

"This hardware update will allow your Glass to work with future lines of shades and prescription frames, and we’ll also include a mono earbud," Google explained. The company didn't provide any details beyond this though.

It looks like the futuristic bone conduction speaker is gone or, at the very least, that a traditional alternative, i.e. an ear bud, is being offered.

Those wanting to listen to music with their Glass will be disappointed that it's just one bud, but it's still better than nothing. Whether the bone conduction technology was too expensive or whether it just didn't prove good enough is unclear for now.

Another interesting tidbit of information revealed by Google is that the new Glass will be able to swap out the frames and that a line of prescription and shade frames is coming. Having options for the look of something that's going to sit on your face for a good part of the day is only a good thing.

Interestingly enough, current owners will be able to replace their Glass with this future version for a limited time. Whether they have to pay for it or not is unclear, but it seems like it.

Anyone who bought Glass before October 28, 2013 will be eligible, but they'll have to act within 60 days of the program being open. Owners will be getting more information soon. They'll be able to get a new color device or keep the one they have if they've grown attached to it.
