Samsung and Sony may both have revealed their Smartwatches during IFA 2013, back in September, but Google isn't about to lag behind too much. No more than two months actually, if the latest rumor is accurate.

According to 9to5google, Google will formally release its own Smartwatch on October 31, and will call it the Gem Nexus.

The main asset of the gadget will be the KitKat Android 4.4 operating system. This actually solves a mystery.

The mystery is this: why didn't Google release or at least preview its Smartwatch at IFA 2013 like the others?

The answer, we suppose, can very well be that the company behind the world's top search engine wanted its new mobile operating system out first.

Samsung's Galaxy Gear and Sony's Smartwatch both run Android 4.1 Jelly Bean. One-upping them both on the software front will obviously help Google here.

Add to that the sheer weight of the “Google” brand and there isn't much chance of the watch failing to sell at least decently well.

Artem Russakovskii of Android Police has confirmed that the arrival date is October 31.

The gadget should be able to do a lot of things, like using Bluetooth 4.0 to draw on the processing power and data in your smartphone. Some sensors will probably be included as well.

That's all we know for sure though. Then again, we can use Samsung's Galaxy Gear as a reference. After all, to sell well against it, the Gem will need to at least match it in the primary fields.

So, for those unaware, the Galaxy Gear can run apps, allow you to take calls by talking into the belt buckle, take photos or shoot videos through a camera on the outer part of your wrist, etc. Whether or not Gem Nexus will be able to do all these things is still uncertain.
