Gadgets represent tiny tools based on another application that can improve the functionality of a certain service. Generally, a gadget provides a single feature to be added to the main program. At this time, the most known applications that are providing gadgets support are surely Yahoo Widget Engine and Google Desktop, two different tools designed by distinct companies. Google Desktop is a downloadable application that helps the company expand the power of the Google search engine in the offline area. Google Desktop indexes all the files stored on a certain computer and allows you to search for a specific file quick and easy. Currently, the program provides widget support that enables you to improve the functionality of the Google product by adding even more functions by using these tiny utilities. Google Desktop gadgets are created by the company and employees and are also compatible with Google Personalized Homepage, an online service that helps you create your personal Google site. As you might know, the latest version of the operating system designed by Microsoft, Windows Vista, contains a desktop sidebar that is also widget compatible and allows you to add tiny tools with simple functions. Because Google Gadgets are many more than the Windows Vista Sidebar Gadgets, Mesa Dynamics created a special tool to convert the search giant gadgets into Vista compatible utilities. "Web widgets, such as the popular Google gadgets, are mini-applications that are packaged in HTML code and deployed on personal web pages. Amnesty Generator converts this web widget code directly into Sidebar gadgets, allowing the web content to run natively in Vista without the need for a hosted page. Amnesty Generator includes an "Autofill" feature and step-by-step instructions to simplify the conversion process. Amnesty Generator lets users move Google gadgets and other web widgets off the web and into Vista's Sidebar, a significant step towards unifying this new and expansive web content with the Windows desktop," the company sustained in a press release. Amnesty Generator was also tested by Softpedia and it is available as a free download on this link.
