Google has fired its Kenya lead over the entire business with Mocality. Google was found guilty of not only scrapping Mocality's online database of businesses looking for clients, but also of lying about a partnership with the Kenyan company.
Google's Kenyan boss, Olga Arara-Kimani, has been
let go in the process. Also fired, apparently, is an employee in Zurich.
"We've concluded our investigation into the serious allegations about our use of data from Mocality's website in Kenya. We're very sorry this happened. We've taken appropriate action with the people involved and made changes in our operations to ensure this doesn't occur again," was all that Google had to
say on the matter.
Hopefully, Google releases more details on the matter eventually and doesn't opt for the "duck head in sand" method of dealing with problems. While this will blow over no matter what Google does, the company can't take too many hits to its image.
