The old page had been around for years without change

Google has updated its Advanced Image Search page to bring it more on par with its other, similar pages. It's not a huge revamp, but it was about time the page got a little freshening up since the older version looked like something from 2003. It probably was.

The redesigned page is cleaner, it's just a white background with simple HTML elements on top.

But the cleaner design is more practical too, the elements are easier to spot and it's easier to find the filters and options that you need.

What's more, the new Advanced Image Search includes some options that were not available in the older one, but were available in the image search sidebar.

It was a pretty glaring discrepancy and it didn't make a lot of sense that the Advanced Image Search page would have fewer option than the regular search page.

But, because Google kept on adding new options and filters, without updating the advanced page, it got left behind.

Thankfully, this is no longer the case and the Advanced Image Search page really feels 'advanced' now since it features more options than regular search.

Still, there are still some options that you'll only find in either the regular search page or the advanced one. In regular search, you can filter images by type, photo, face, drawing and so on. There is also the option of restricting the results to only recent images.

In the Advanced Search Page, on the other hand, you can choose the file type, PNG, JPG and so on, or the copyright restriction, you can search for Creative Commons photos this way.

Between the two, users should be able to find exactly what they want, but it's still a bit strange that there's no way to see all of the options in one place. [via Google OS]
