Ironically, the Google social network didn't come with a search box at first

Along with the public launch, Google is finally rolling out a feature that many were surprised was missing in the first place. That's right, Google who is best known for its search engine didn't build a search feature into Google+.

That's been rectified now, you can now find the stuff you're looking for on Google+ from inside the social network.

Granted, while it may seem like a huge oversight, search may not have been such a crucial feature, at least not at first, and Google was focused on building a solid core of features before venturing out to others.

"You’ve been asking for it, and we’ve been busy building it, so today we’re bringing Google’s search expertise to Google+," Vic Gundotra, Senior Vice President of Engineering at Google, wrote.

"Just type what you’re looking for into the Google+ search box, and we’ll return relevant people and posts, as well as popular content from around the web," he explained.

There's not much to explain about a search feature, it's built into Google+ and you can look for things with it.

The results will include anything that you can see in Google+ for yourself, meaning public posts, people and so on, but also posts from your friends shared with you.

You can restrict search results to People, posts on Google+ and Sparks or you can view everything in one place.

"If you’re into photography, for example, then you’ll see other enthusiasts and lots of great pictures. If you care more about cooking, then you’ll see other chefs and food from around the globe," Gundotra explained.

With a few tens of millions of people on Google+ already and with an influx of new ones, now that Google+ is open, there is already a lot of content and data on the site, so a search feature should prove useful.
