People can now enjoy faster Internet thanks to Google

It is a known fact that Google Fiber is currently expanding its services, which is great news for Internet users, but not so great for local providers who run the risk of losing their businesses.

Since Google Fiber was heading towards Charlotte, North Caroline, or at least it was planning to, Internet providers got so freaked out by the upcoming events that they decided it was time to take some measures, ZDnet reports.

To make sure that it would not lose its customers, Time Warner Cable increased its Internet speed without asking for any extra fees. They announced on their official website that "For example, customers who subscribe to Standard, formerly up to 15Mbps, will now receive up to 50Mbps, customers who subscribe to Extreme, formerly up to 30Mbps, will now receive up to 200Mbps; and customers who subscribe to Ultimate, formerly up to 50Mbps, will receive up to 300Mbps, at no extra charge."

This means that the cable telecommunications company is willing to make its Internet six times faster, in order to make sure that it does not lose any of its 15 million "satisfied" customers.

The winners of the competition are the inhabitants

Luckily for the Charlotte, NC, inhabitants, they will the ones benefitting from the competition between these two great Internet service providers and they will enjoy ultra-fast speeds beginning the summer of 2015.

Back in January, Google Fiber revealed that Charlotte would be among the states where they plan to deliver the much awaited 1 Gbps Internet, but no one was expecting this kind of reaction from its rival.

This decision was part of the plan to cut back on the monopoly that some Internet providers have on certain areas in the US.

However, Google should have probably kept quiet about its intentions, because by revealing its plans, it allowed its competitors to make the first move and boost up the Internet speed. But even so, Charlotte inhabitants are prone to spend an extra $5 (€4.74) to take full advantage of the 1000 Mbps Internet provided by Google Fiber.
