Nexus One by HTC was the first smartphone to be launched on the market via Google's own web store, and also the first such device to receive support directly from Google, but no more.

Google has closed down the service, it seems, and those interested in receiving support for the device can no longer use the old tech support number (888-486-3987) for that.

Of course, this does not mean that Nexus One users won't benefit from support for their device any longer, but that Google won't offer the service to them.

And this is exactly what those who will call the aforementioned phone number would learn, namely that they should call HTC support (888-216-4736) instead.

This is not a move that would affect the Android ecosystem, nor the manner in which users can benefit from their handset's features, that's for sure.

However, it is another door Google closes behind Nexus One, following the closing down of the aforementioned web store.

When launching the device, Google said it opens a new way in which users can purchase Android-based devices, but the company already stopped selling the Nexus One via its online portal, and now it closes down the support service for this device.

It seems that Google is steadily moving away from the phone selling plans it had in early 2010, a move caused by the fact that “Nexus One served its purpose,” as the company said a while ago.

For what its worth, this does not mean that the handset would be phase out, nor that it would stop selling on the market.

HTC would offer support for the handset, though users should also be able to find a great deal of answers for their problems on Google's support website for the device.

Although still available for purchase via carriers around the world, the Nexus One is expected to become mainly the handset of choice for application developers, which can get it from the Android Developers website.
