Google Earth, the downloadable application that helps users view maps and other satellite imagery straight from their desktop, shows a 72 km tall inexistent building near Bratislava. According to the Google Earth Blog, the building is placed near Bratislava, Slovakia and represents a 3D layer uploaded into the program's database. "Apparently someone has secretly built a space elevator in Slovakia - either that, or something wrong happened when a 3D model was put into Google's database. You only see this data error if you turn on the "3D Buildings" layer," it is mentioned in the blog post.

As you might know, Google Earth allows users to design their own 3D building, cities and neighborhoods using the interoperability with Google SketchUp. This program is also powered by the Mountain View company and helps you design your own 3D model, upload it on Google's Warehouse, the site that stores the drawings, and include it into Google Earth. Since the interoperability was announced, the users created numerous designs, contributing to the evolution of the downloadable application.

Recently, another error was discovered in Google Earth, the program showing a Chilean city in Argentina. The authorities contacted the Mountain View company to resolve the issue and it seems that Google is currently working on the problem. However, Google Earth was periodically brought into the spotlights because the authorities from certain countries criticized the application. New Orleans officials sustained that Google removed the photos with the Hurricane Katrina because they wanted to avoid showing the truth. The search giant defended itself by sustaining the images were published on a separate website to be included in Google Earth.

If you want to download Google you can take it straight from Softpedia. The Windows version is available on this link while the Mac-compatible release can be downloaded from this page.
