Google has updated its Earth app for iOS devices to version 3.0, adding native support for the iPad, including full-resolution imagery and an iPad-specific look and feel, and road layer for the iPad and iPhone 3GS. The 3.0 update is the first version of Earth built for a tablet device. Imagery is now displayed in full resolution on Apple's iPad, while on-screen elements go better with the main view now.

“Hold the world in the palm of your hand,” Google’s description of Earth for the iPhone and iPad reads. “With Google Earth for iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch, you can fly to far corners of the planet with just the swipe of a finger. Explore the same global satellite and aerial imagery available in the desktop version of Google Earth, including high-resolution imagery for over half of the world's population and a third of the world's land mass,” Google is proud to inform.

In usual manner, the iTunes App Store description offers up several key features of Google Earth for the iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad, beginning with the ability to navigate the world with a swipe of the finger.

Users can adjust their view to see mountainous terrain by swiping with two fingers, use the Location feature to fly to their current location, search for cities, places, and businesses around the globe with Google Local Search, show the Panoramio layer, and browse the millions of geo-located photos from around the world. Geo-located Wikipedia articles are also available with Earth for iPhone OS (now dubbed iOS). Google Earth is currently available on Nexus One, iPhone, and Droid.
