Google is running a doodle celebrating the birthday of Robert Norton Noyce, a legendary figure in Silicon Valley, the inventor of the integrated circuit, at least the practical version which came into use, and the cofounder of both Fairchild Semiconductor and Intel.
Arguably, Google, the web, even computers owe it all to the invention of the integrated circuit and the early microprocessors Intel created.
The world would be a different place today if weren't for Noyce, of course, assuming that someone else wouldn't have created integrated circuits and companies to make use of them.
His leadership style at Intel, which focused less on structure and perks and more on an atmosphere of collaboration, which shaped the Silicon Valley culture of today.
Google's celebratory doodle depicts an integrated circuit with the Google name etched straight onto the silicon inside.
