Google is honoring one of the world's most famous jewelers, Peter Carl Fabergé creator of the eggs with the same name. His creations are highly valued today and he is heralded as one of the greatest artists of this type.
Google's doodle obviously uses the Fabergé egg motif, one that easily lends itself to a doodle. The Google logo is replaced by several eggs, some revealing the Google letters inside them.
The doodle is fairly intricate, like the eggs themselves, and detailed, though you can't make out much in the small version adorning the homepage.
This doodle would have benefited from a larger version being made available separately, like Google does on occasion. The doodle is live on the global homepage and plenty of local versions of the search engine.
