Google usually reserves its homepage doodles for famous scientists, artists, generally people that are well known or deserve to be. But Google isn't always uptight, it's got a lighter side as well.
Over the weekend, Google ran a very distinctive doodle, only in the US and the UK, celebrating 125 years since the 'observance' of the world's largest recorded snowflake.
Just how large would a snowflake have to be for it to be remembered 125 years later on the world's most trafficked page, you must be wondering. Well, supposedly, it was 15 inches in diameter, a full 38 cm.
The gigantic snowflake landed in Fort Keogh, Montana on the 28th of January, 1887. Google ran an animated doodle to mark the occasion, tagSEOBlog managed to make the video above. The original static version is in the gallery below.
