As Google is putting the finishing touches on a native Maps application that aims to bring back the Google-Maps experience to iOS customers, sources within the company are telling UK newspapers that they’re not very optimistic about Apple approving it in the App Store.

The Guardian is citing sources at Google who are familiar with the company’s mapping plans as saying they are “not optimistic” that Apple will approve a dedicated maps app from the search giant.

“Though the app is reportedly in development and should be ready to ship by the end of the year, the sources say their plans are only proceeding in ‘the unlikely event’ that Apple will choose to approve the app,” according to the newspaper.

The sources said Apple’s mapping suggestions on “Find maps for your iPhone” lack any titles that use Google Maps APIs (application programming interface). Which is why they’re not so confident Apple wants to offer such an app for download.
