There's been a lot of talk about women in tech and the discussion is not going to end any time soon. Google is doing more than talk though, it's trying to get to the bottom of why there are so few women working for tech jobs, why so few are hired and why so few are promoted.

This being Google, obviously it came up with an algorithm to try to determine what was happening. It paid off too, for example, Google discovered that many of the women who turned down jobs despite being accepted didn't meet any women Googlers during the interview process.

So Google made sure more women were part of the hiring. Another problem was that women were less likely to flaunt their abilities during the phone interview so they came off as less qualified. Now Google asks more detailed questions. These changes are making quantifiable results, more women are getting hired at the company than before.
