Old Public Service Search accounts are still available

Google Public Service Search is a product designed by the search giant Google that helps universities, government agencies or other non-profit organizations include search technologies on their websites without displaying adverts. As you know, the company provides multiple ways for including a search engine on your webpage but most of them are based on ad distribution using Google's services. Recently, some Google bloggers sustained the company removed the Public Service Search and replaced it with Custom Search Engine. This product helps you create your own Google Search and configure it by your needs, using a simple wizard provided by the company.

Although it was quite obvious the company removed the service because the official page redirected you to Custom Search Engine, the Google employees posted a message on the blog to deny the rumor and to sustain the solution was disabled but the old accounts are still working.

"Public Service Search is a service that enables non-profit, university, and government web sites to provide search functionality to their visitors without serving ads. While we've stopped accepting new Public Service Search accounts, if you want to add the functionality of this service to your site, we encourage you to check out the Google Custom Search Engine. Note that if you already have a Public Service Search account, you'll be able to continue offering search results on your site. A Custom Search Engine can provide you with free web search and site search with the option to specify and prioritize the sites that are included in your search results," Christine, Web Search Support, sustained in a blog post published on the official page of the product.

If you want to use Google Custom Search Engine as the old Public Service Search, you should disable the ads displayed by the company by using the "Do not show ads" function available in the wizard provided by the service.
