Google fans in India are now able to use a new technology powered by the Mountain View company which allows them to get information from Google wherever they are. The Google SMS technology enables consumers to get business listings and other details provided by the search products straight on their mobile devices by sending a message to 54664 from their handhelds. According to Sify.com, the service is currently available only for the Airtel, Aircel, BPL, BSNL and Reliance networks. Obviously, the Google product can be used for free but the network operators might charge the customers for the SMS sent to Google.

"The latest offering is part of our mobile strategy in the sub-continent, where text messaging has become a part of daily life. With mobile service providers adding over a million subscribers a month, we intend to offer them a quick and easy way to get the information from anywhere and anytime", Google India products head Vinay Goel said according to Sify.com.

At this time, Google SMS is only in beta stage, so if you encounter any problem with the service wait a little bit to see if the company repairs it. In addition, you might prefer contacting the giant to inform it about the existence of the bug.

"Google SMS is a service that enables you to search for certain kinds of information with Google from a mobile phone, and returns your search results as text messages. With Google SMS, you can get local business listings, movie showtimes, weather, facts, dictionary definitions, and more", Google described the recently released technology.

Google struggles to evolve into the mobile market and an SMS feature would be exactly what the super giant needs to become more powerful on this segment of the industry. But nobody knows exactly what will happen next, since Google refuses to talk about its intentions regarding this subject. So let's wait a little and see what it will come up with.
