Adobe is not the only one trying to get developers to ditch Flash and take up HTML5. Surprisingly, Google is too. Last summer it released a simple but interesting tool, Swiffy, which converted Flash animations into HTML5 ones.Work on the tool is still undergoing, but Google has now released an extension for Flash Professional which enables developers to export Flash projects directly to HTML5 files.
This should make the life of developers and designers easier, especially since they can continue to use the tools they're familiar with.
"The extension is available for both Mac and Windows, and it uses Swiffy as a web service, so you’ll always get our latest and greatest conversion. Information about the conversion process is shown within Flash Professional," Esteban de la Canal, a Software Engineer on the Swiffy team,
explained.
Be warned that the conversion is still not perfect, but Swiffy does offer an option for those working on banner ads and other relatively simple animations.
